STRAYING FROM THE PLAN

The ages turned. Through the efforts of the Children and the people, and the environment-shaping and healing powers present within the mighty Dragons, the realms began to recover.

As time went by, kingdoms rose over the face of the world and armies were raised as a safeguard against allowing the past to repeat itself.

Though still watching over the races of people, the Children began to have less sway over the events of the world. When the gods and goddesses spent a portion of their powers to bestow Magick to the multitude of people during the war, it had strengthened the people but weakened the influence of the Children themselves. The Children spent a great deal of time trying to figure out what to do about their brother, for now that events had played out as they had, none of them felt the great amounts of joy over the future that they had felt at the beginning.

People also began to change over time, becoming much more self-reliant to solve their problems and live their lives. The world itself had become more dangerous, as creatures that had been unleashed in the world during the war of long ago interbred with natural creatures, and now seemingly normal-appearing creatures could in fact be very dangerous and unpredictable.

Unbeknownst to everyone, since gates were still so difficult to locate, Nazu began sending out significant numbers of Xeron and Daemons into the world over the years, a few at a time through far-flung gates into the realms. Many of the Xeron looked like normal people, but were in fact thoroughly evil, and their actions caused people to become fearful and suspicious of strangers and people of other races.

Eventually, the inevitable occurred. A border dispute led to threats that escalated into a battle between desert-dwelling Men and a battalion of Drakkhan. Inter-racial wars had come to Elcriss, and they had come to stay. Though short lived, this fight opened the door to other battles and other wars in other places, as technology and Magick in this age enabled word to spread quickly from place to place. Alliances were forged, kingdoms overthrown, and over the following ages a feudal system came into existence that divided race against race, people against their own kinds and sometimes even brother against brother.

The Children wept. It was not supposed to be this way. This was not in the Plan. But deep in the darkness of the shadowy Void, The Chaos Lord watched and laughed, and continued with his own dark designs…

During these ages, Nazu had produced large armies of Xeron and Daemons that now had their own kingdoms within the horrible realms of the Void. Nazu was their lord, and though they hated and reviled him as they did everything that existed, they worshipped him out of fear and subservience, and he became their unquestioned king and god.

Though it had taken a tremendous amount of time and effort, Nazu had finally discovered how to use his awful powers he now called the Twisting on the Dragons he had captured. It expended a terrible cost in souls, and Nazu himself had to infuse some of his own immortal life force into each one, but the resulting creatures were truly the stuff of nightmares. The Dragons of Chaos were extremely dangerous and difficult to control, but Nazu saw their value in the devastation they could reign down once unleashed and accepted the losses incurred in his populations of Xeron and Daemons from the frequent rampages of the titanic beasts as unfortunate but sustainable expenditures.
